Kavanagh Dock Dedication
June 18, 2008
On April 24, 2008 Intermarine dedicated its new heavy lift dock at Industrial Terminals in Houston, Texas in memory of Roger Kavanagh, the company’s founder. The dock, named The Kavanagh Dock, is the first dock in the Port of Houston to be named after an individual. The event was attended by many of Intermarine’s clients and friends as well as by most of the long time employees of Intermarine’s New Orleans and Houston offices. (see photos) (see video)
The dock has a working concrete apron that is 400 feet long by 40 feet wide and designed for 1000 pound per square foot loading. The apron and adjacent bulk heading allow berthing of vessels up to 550 feet in length with a designed working depth of 40 feet. The berth is currently dredged to 32 feet. The dock has direct rail service the full length of the apron, designed for 80 kip axle loads. Two each gantry mounted cranes rated at a maximum capacity of 200 tons service the apron. The new dock has been very successful and expansion plans are already on the way.
